Cowboy  Action  Shooting

 

On May 17, 2008  OUSAC members Andrew Wargo, Stephen Karney and David Dupler drove to the Scioto Territory Desperadoes club 's  range at Chillicothe Ohio.   They joined other folks in a New Shooter Orientation class intended to inform interested people about what this Old Western style of shooting competition is all about.

The Desperados began the class by a recalling the sport's history, a safety briefing and explaining the rules.

The Desperados will guide the new shooters through two stages of a typical competitive event.

Three different types of firearms are used in Cowboy action shooting ;
two single action pistols, a rifle and a shotgun.

Cowboy action shooters often manufacture their own carts to transport the firearms and supplies.

Safety is stressed through out the competition with firearms only being loaded before the stage.
